Fall 2009 Internship Opportunities

 

UK Trade & Investment  (UKTI) located at the British Consulate-General in Houston is the British Government organisation supporting companies in the UK doing business internationally and American business seeking to set up or expand in the UK.  We have 8 UK Trade & Investment offices throughout the US: through our expert and confidential services, we aim to maximise market opportunities to expand the dynamic business relationships between our two countries.

 

This unpaid internship is a unique opportunity for self-motivated undergraduate students to become closely familiar with the inner workings of a multifaced overseas commercial department in a diplomatic post.

 

This unpaid internship will likely appeal to individuals who have demonstrated acumen in acadmenic disciplines such as Public Policy, Goverment Marketing, International Business and Affairs, Communincations and Business Administration.

 

Responsibilites:

 

FDI Survey of Region's Companies; prepare survey. produce survey, execute survey, compile data, analyse data;

Contribute to briefings and travel programmes.

Updating UKTI Stock Briefs and researching trade statistics.

Manage appointments, travel and document administration; and complete other ad hoc research, event co-ordination and administrative projects.

 

Opportunities

Develop and understanding of government commericial work; and learn about US and UK business and international trade and investment facilitation strategies.

 

Required skills:

 

Excellent communication/organisational skills;

Ability to learn quickly and meet tight deadlines;

Stronge organisatonal, multitasking and analytical skills; and Marketing, international business or communications background is a plus.

BRITISH CONSULATE-GENERAL, HOUSTON

Internship

 

The British Consulate in Houston has an opening for an unpaid internship from June to August 2010. The internship is designed to supplement coursework in international affairs, government, public affairs, economics, US-UK relations, human relations or environmental studies, and overall understanding of British Government policies. The internship will allow students to work in a fast-paced environment at the centre of the UK/Texas relationship. The Consulate is looking for an engaging, quick thinking individual with a great deal of potential.

Duties will include research, development of contact lists, work on new media and offering support for senior management.

Eligibility:
In order to be eligible for an internship with the British Consulate, you must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (at least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships are preferred.


Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or J1 Visa holders. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Consulate. All candidates will be subject to security clearances and background checks.
